24v Cordless Drill

The 24v cordless drill is the big brother of the cordless drill family, and is a tool that is worthy of consideration if it is heavy duty work that is required, but it comes with advantages and disadvantages. You need to first decide if you do actually need a cordless drill at all, let alone a 24v cordless drill.

If you expect to never be out of reach of a powerpoint, or to be without power for any other reason, then perhaps you will not need to consider purchasing a cordless drill, but if you expect to be using your drill in a variety of situations then you are bound to find a time when a cordless drill is what you need.

Also, if you find yourself in a situation in which you are required to do some low-speed drilling, then a cordless drill is a better option than a corded one.

Using batteries these days is not such a disadvantage as it once was, because improved technology means that batteries now last longer between charges and are more competitive with corded drills in terms of power. The newer batteries are more expensive than the older ones but you are paying more for something that is worth more, and will give you improved and longer lasting performance.

The advantage of the more powerful battery in the 24v cordless drill is the additional torque which enables you to drive bigger screws into harder materials. The disadvantage is that the 24v cordless drill is significantly heavier than its less powerful cousins or its corded counterparts.

You simply need to check when purchasing a 24v cordless drill that you can handle it comfortably. Hold it above your head and in any other positions in which you anticipate you will be required to use it. If the drill feels correctly balanced and you feel that you are capable of handling it satisfactorily, then go ahead and make the purchase.

The 24v cordless drill gives you great versatility, especially if you are using it in a professional capacity, because it will do just about anything that is asked of it, and you are not tethered by a dangerous electrical cord that has to be within reach of a power outlet, and there is not always going to be power available anyway when there is drilling to be done.

Cordless drills have other advantages over most powered models. The adjustable clutch mechanism allows you to set the torque to a setting that is appropriate for the job in hand. The variable-speed trigger control enables you to vary the screwing speed, and the keyless chuck means that you can change your drill bit by just twisting the mechanism with your hand.

There are many good brands to choose from, and you will know that your handyman or professional arsenal is capable of any drilling application that comes its way when you own a 24v cordless drill.
